A series of thefts are taking place in Mosta. Each morning people start asking: “who was targeted today?” As far that I know most of these thefts are taking place in the early hours of the weekend, but I also heard of some that took place in mid-week.
In my opinion, these are petty thefts, mostly break-ins into old people’s homes, when these go to the 5.30am Mass.
I am very sorry to say that in this town on 18,000 inhabitants, one very rarely to sees a policeman, even in the town square.
I have great confidence in other departments of the police corps but in Mosta it seems that not enough is being done.
I understand that the corps is understaffed and I also understand that police work has immensely grown and other police departments are doing a great job.
What happened to those policemen who were released from immigration at the airport and from the licensing office? I used to hear the minister saying that they were going to be replaced by civilians, so policemen would start their real job. Lately, the minister even removed their work related to traffic collisions. Do the people notice any change for the better? If they did, I did not.
With all these changes, the situation in Mosta did not improve. The situation is deteriorating every week, and fast too.
I appeal to the minister and the commissioner to go into the matter fast. We want to see the police not in the station but on the streets.
