Marsa and Senglea figured in an interesting 1-1 draw in this top of the table clash, a draw that favours Mqabba who end up the first round as sole leaders of the First Division League.
It was a fair result in a match that never reached high standards but that kept the few spectators present on edge till the final whistle.
Senglea were better in the initial stages with Marsa coming out slowly but surely. When the Redblues took the lead they seemed capable to control their opponents, but Senglea’s equaliser near the end made justice with Richard Mercieca’s boys, for a result that keeps both teams in this wide open promotion hunt.
Snglea had the first chance of the match with Glen Bonello making his way from the left with his final shot hitting the side netting. Six minutes later an Alex Farrugia missed the base of the upright.
On 21 minutes Marsa created their first danger but Gilbert Martin headed weakly a good cros from the right by Grima. Marsa started o play better and Cutajar shot incredibly high after a bad sortie by the Senglea goalkeeper.
On 39 minutes George Attard in the Senglea goal made amends when he tippid into a corner a good shot from the edge of the area by Gilbert Martin. Just before half time a good shot on the turn by Senglea’s Bonello went over the bar.
Like in the first half Senglea started the second part on a better note but failed to create scoring chances. This apart form a good chance by Glenn Bonello who lobbed over the goalkeeper but defender Zammit cleared the danger.
On 63 minutes Marsa took the lead when Parker headed for Joseph Casha who shot low in to the net following a Senglea defensive lapse. After this goal the match continued to be interesting with Senglea trying their best to save the match.
They reached their intention with seven minutes to go when Kenneth Abela completely unmarked on the right shot low from an acute angle and Marsa defender Zammit shot into his own net in an attempt to clear, even though the ball would have gone in without his deflection.
