Anti-smoking Laws

Malta Independent Wednesday, 19 January 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

While we waste precious time and energy debating and writing about new laws, I think the time has come to ask ourselves whether all this controversy is really worth it.

A case in point is the recent contributions regarding the new anti-smoking laws in places of entertainment.

We read and heard everyone’s viewpoint, and yet, now that the law has passed, a quick walk around Malta’s night spots would make anyone doubt whether the law has indeed come into effect.

Smokers once smoked in pubs, restaurants and night-spots. Smokers still do.

Are the police doing their job?

The laws continue to be broken, and non-smokers continue to suffer in silence.

A big thank you to all those concerned.
