Melita Digital Pre-launch phase gets underway

Malta Independent Sunday, 23 January 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Last week Melita Cable started installing digital set-top boxes in the homes of subscribers who pre-booked their Digital TV services. Melita Digital subscribers will start enjoying an unparalleled choice of 77 TV Channels, most in stereo sound and enhanced picture quality.

Melita Digital had a very strong response to its pre-booking campaign. Over 1000 digital set-top boxes in more than 500 homes will be connected to Digital TV between now and the end of January. These customers will be the first to enjoy the benefits of Digital TV in Malta.

“We are very happy with the response to our pre-launch campaign,” said Franco de Gabriele – Head of Sales and Marketing at Melita Cable. “We are committed give our customers the best TV offering possible. We have worked very hard to present our customers with the richest channel line-up possible and are committed to continue to improve our offering in the months to come. There is no doubt that this is the best selection of TV channels available in Malta.”

Some of the new channels in the Melita Digital Channel line up include; The History Channel, 3 Discovery Channels, a channel dedicated to Hunting and Fishing, The Sailing Channel, Motors TV, two brand new Cartoon Channels namely Boomerang and Toonami and more live sport than ever before.

“Sport continues to be in great demand among our customers,” said Franco de Gabriele. “Weekends will never be the same for Sports enthusiasts. We provide six channels of live and exclusive sport over the weekends, including but not limited to the English Premier League, the Italian Serie A, the FA Cup, World Cup qualifiers and International football fixtures and now also the Coca Cola English First Division.”

Melita Digital is also committed to sports fans other than football and will be showing live events and magazine shows covering International Rugby, Cricket, Golf, Horse Racing, Athletics, NBA, Wrestling, ATP Tennis and more.

The vast improvement in the channels provided by Melita Digital as well as the improved experience of stereo sound and enhanced picture are provided to customers at only a marginal increase in price. It costs approximately Lm2 more every month for the current Family subscribers to convert their current subscription to the world of Digital. This can be translated to approximately 10 cents more per new channel.

Channels such as Fox Kids known now as Jetix, Deutsche Welle, TV5 and others will be converted from part time transmission to 24-hour channels.

Melita Digital comes in four packages namely; Melita Connect, Melita Movies, Melita Sports and Melita World. The latter is an all-inclusive package including Melita Connect, Movies and Sports.

During this pre-launch phase customers will be connected to Melita World, enjoy the benefits of Digital TV and continue to pay their current analogue rates. The official launch of Melita Digital is expected some time in February.
