The Civil Protection Association has asked the industrial relations director to intervene as a mediator between the association and the civil protection authorities with regard to a number of working condition issues the association’s members have with the CPD authorities.
In a statement issued yesterday, the association claimed that it has drawn the attention of CPD authorities to a number of conditions such as payment of shift allowance, payment of phone allowance as well as the allowance for height and depths and other danger money which have been left pending.
The association also mentioned the payment of current and pending overtime hours worked, highlighting the elections and floods as periods in which overtime was worked by members but had not yet been paid. Another issue mentioned was the setting up of a collective insurance policy.
A lot of time has passed since the association first drew the attention of the authorities to these issues but nothing has happened since and the association expects something to be done, the statement said.
“The association recognises its legal position and assures that it will do nothing to undermine or jeopardise the professional services offered by its members, who always served their duties in the best interest of the country.
However, with a little effort from everyone through a serious and open discussion, the association is sure that a fair solution can be achieved and that the anomalies and pending issues its members have with the authorities could be solved,” the statement concluded.
