David Sutton, deputy chief executive of the Malta Transport Authority (ADT), was elected as chairman of the Road Transport Group of the European Conference of Ministers of Transport (ECMT). Mr Sutton was elected unanimously by representatives of 43 countries during a meeting held in Paris yesterday.
Malta was represented at the meeting by Mr Vincent Cassar, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry for Urban Development and Roads.
Mr Sutton succeeds outgoing Hungarian Deputy Secretary of State for Transport Zoltan Kazatsay, who has recently taken a high-ranking post within the European Commission’s DG Transport and Energy.
David Sutton is a chartered transport planner and economist by profession, specialised in road transport.
He has worked in both private and public sectors in various different countries and has gained nearly 20 years of experience in road transport.
He has been employed with the ADT for just over two years.
The nomination was made by the Secretariat General of the same organisation and was unanimously supported by all member countries present.
