MOC-KMS Controversy

Malta Independent Saturday, 29 January 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The Malta Olympic Committee has deplored and termed unjustified comments made by the Minister for Education, also responsible for Sport, Dr Louis Galea on Thursday.

The MOC has issued the following declaration in reply to the Minister’s comments.

The MOC said that it resulted that the president and the Director of Media of the MOC, Mr Justice Lino Farrugia Sacco and Magistrate Antonio Mizzi, were attacked and criticised personally – a point which the Minister himself confirmed that it had nothing to do with sport and even the Malta Olympic Committee itself.

It said the two persons had been elected democratically on a personal basis, and not because they were members of the Judiciary. “What they said was that the Olympic Charter expresses different concepts from The Sports Law in Malta and the same concepts had already been expressed by members during a general meeting,” said the MOC declaration.
