Jimmy Magro And the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools

Malta Independent Sunday, 30 January 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

From Dr A. Borg Cardona LL.D.

We write on behalf of Mr Chris Pullicino, Financial Controller of the Foundation for Tomorrow's Schools, to whom reference was made, albeit not by name, in Mr Jimmy Margo’s letter “Making the News” (TMIS, 23 January).

While reserving his rights against Mr Magro in respect of the said letter, our client wishes to point out:

1) that it is untrue to state that the financial records of the Foundation are maintained on Microsoft Excel as Mr Magro alleged. If Mr Magro has based his allegations on what is being stated incorrectly in other

sections of the media or on what was alleged by the Court Expert in the course of the Magisterial Inquiry to which Mr Magro makes oblique reference, he should have sought to substantiate the allegations before repeating them.

Indeed, the records under reference are maintained on Sage, an industry standard package and Excel is only used as a presentational tool. Mr Magro’s allegation therefore throws a negative light on our client and should be withdrawn by him unconditionally.

2) That to link our client with what Mr Magro describes as “the fracas that has tainted our future educational system”, as Mr Magro clearly did, is unjustified and potentially libellous of our client, as an examination of the relevant documentation would have revealed, had Mr Magro carried out this examination instead of resorting to sweeping and unfounded statements.

Our client closes by stating that he has the full backing of his employers, the Foundation of Tomorrow's Schools, in requesting us to bring the above to your attention for publication in terms of law.
