All you hear from the MLP is that this country is in a crisis. Talking to people who have just come back from Sri Lanka or Indonesia, I would say they are using the word crisis too glibly. These are testing times and times are difficult, yes, but do we have a crisis?

Labour is just trying to stir up feelings of discontent. Labour just wants an early election. That's what it wants. But what it wants is not enough. It’s what we all want that counts.

The important issue is not only whether there is a crisis, and who is to blame for it, but also how to get through these difficult times? According to the Labour it is all the PN's fault. It is all the government's fault. Basically, Labour and the GWU are in finger pointing mode and it is contagious.

Alfred Sant, and now AD as well, blame the fact that they do no better because the media either is against them or not giving them enough coverage or whatever. Harry wants more, or some, coverage on Net. Don't Dr Sant and his supporters have ample column space to themselves?

Tony Zarb is in finger pointing mode too. He blames the employers. He tells us that not only the workers should suffer. Employers should make sacrifices as well. So we're back to this public holiday saga. Does Tony know the employers too will work on those extra holidays we have lost?

I would love to know just how long the MCESD spent negotiating this point, and how many hours the unions spent trying to reach an agreement, which never happened in the end. After all it would have been terrible had an agreement been reached on the eve of the Labour rally that didn't really happen as planned.

I don't know about you but I think the hours spent by the Prime Minister and others trying to sort out this agreement seem to be out of proportion to the issue.

I, and many others, are fed up with the way this man who dominates society and is unable to agree to anything. We're in Montague and Capulet mode and nobody wants to give an inch.

Things are difficult but there is an air of artificiality around which is disconcerting. It all started when Labour lost power in 1998. It didn't face up to what really went wrong, and blamed anyone and anything rather than dealing with the real problem.

Alfred Sant clashed with Dom Mintoff and neither would give in. It was not because top civil servants didn't always cooperate fully with Alfred Sant, as he would have us believe. It wasn't because the PN and Dom plotted together. It was a simple Dom – Alfred clash and many Dom supporters still can’t forgive Alfred Sant

So Labour has spent all of the years since 1998 weaving conspiracy theories about who is harming them. When I heard Jason Micallef on Smash TV saying he found it difficult to have faith in me, I just had to smile. In life you are not just against something if you're not for something as Labour would have us believe. (Min mhux maghna kontra taghna!)

The Labour Party tolerates no dissent. If you don't agree you have to go. You are certainly not allowed to criticise, so Labour said goodbye to Dom, goodbye to Lino and goodbye to Alex Sceberras Trigona

If Labour has no faith in people who are actually Laburisti how on earth can it have faith in the rest of us?

This is essentially why I think it would be such a bad idea to put it in power yet. This is why I think their current leadership is not mature enough for that responsibility.

Labour always needs total control. But when you govern a country you don't have the same control you have at a mass meeting or at a Labour Party conference. It’s part of the difficulty of managing anything. You have to tolerate dissent and take it into account

When the Deputy Leader Charles Mangion was addressing Labour faithful he didn't even have to finish his sentence before they roared. He was just hinting who Labour would remove if it were in government. Can’t Labour stop feeding its people such fodder. Can’t it be positive and say how it is going to improve anything in this country. Does it have any idea, or is just removing me and the likes of me enough? Is that what all its policy is about? Removal and retribution? Will that turn the economy around? Will that guarantee our welfare state?

What kind of preparation for government is that? Threatening people before you even have power?

I was really touched by the people in the street who came up to me after the Jason Micallef outburst. They were worried for me. It was surprising. Old ladies, policemen, shopkeepers who all thought he was so out of order. On the whole in this country the government of the day tends to choose people who are of the same political colour. But it does not mean by the same token that I have in any way harmed any Labour people. Far from it. In the years I have chaired the Housing Authority we have in fact geared our service to accommodate more Labour voters who tend to be concentrated in some of our poorer areas

Anyway, I’m not going to point my finger at Jason Micallef. If he ever needs help from the Housing Authority we'll help him. As for his manners, he'll have to learn those somewhere else.
