Senglea A 2

Mosta 1

Ten-man Senglea made a comeback in the second half to turn the tables on Mosta and go joint-second with Mqabba, two points behind leaders Hamrun Spartans.

It was a deserved win for Senglea who played for 53 minutes with a player less.

Mosta, who took the lead in the 23rd minute, failed to hold on to it despite their numerical superiority and are now practically completely out of the promotion race.

The match was a keen tussle between two sides aiming for a Premiership place. However it was almost completely marred by some nasty tackles, with Kenneth Abela paying the highest price as he was carried off injured.

Mosta took the lead on 23 minutes when Philip Camilleri stole the ball off Simon Aquilina and made his way inside the area to score with a beautiful shot in the top corner of the net.

Senglea's reaction was an immediate one with a Kenneth Abela lob missing the target. On 35 minutes Senglea went close through Leonid McKay, but his shot from close range was blocked by Newell.

It was Senglea's best patch with the Mosta rearguard in apparent difficulty. Senglea appealed for a penalty when Kenneth Abela was pushed off the ball in another goalmouth action. On 37 minutes Senglea were reduced to ten players when Malcolm Tirchett was sent off for kicking Pio Scriha, a rather harsh decision.

Senglea started the second half on the attack and Kenneth Abela missed a good opportunity in front of Matthew Farrugia.

On 62 minutes they obtained the equaliser when Kenneth Abela headed in a McKay freekick with the ball hitting the crossbar before finishing at the back of the net.

The match was now very entertaining with Senglea playing even better. They were unlucky to lose Kenneth Abela after a rather nasty tackle by Okonkwo. His substitute Timmy Thomas tested Farrugia and a Roderick Spiteri header skimmed the crossbar.

However Senglea were rewarded with three minutes to go when they were awarded a penalty for a Brian Agius handling infringement. From the penalty spot captain Simon Aquilina scored the winner. The last minutes were a desperate assault by Mosta but to no avail.

San Gwann 0

Gozo FC 0

Gozo FC stunned high riding San Gwann with a five star display that could have easily turned into the Gozitans' first win of the season. The Gozitans hit the crossbar in the first half and even missed a penalty in the second one.

The match was very interesting, with the Gozitans pressing in every corner of the field and San Gwann never settling down. The result shatters San Gwann's ambitions of moving closer to the leaders, and is too little for Gozo FC who could have opened new salvation hopes with a win.

San Gwann started the match on attack but the Gozitans were determined and fought for every ball. After a couple of minutes Cuschieri's shot from the right was saved by Mercieca. On eight minutes De Oliveira, in his debut, hit the crossbar direct from a freekick.

Cuschieri missed a sitter in front, and on the other end Silvan Galea blasted high a good pass by De Oliveira. On 21 minutes San Gwann had another good opportunity with Zammit Fava passing to Decesare whose shot went wide.

In the last minutes of the first half Gozo FC had two scoring chances through De Oliveira and Portelli, with the latter missing an easy chance after he brilliantly made his way inside the area.

The second half started with a glaring chance for San Gwann's Mark Psaila who failed to score in front of goal following a defensive blunder.

John Camilleri had a good opportunity on 53 minutes but shot well over the bar. De Oliveira tried his luck with another freekick but Bartolo saved well. On 79 minutes the Gozitans lost their best opportunity when Vella Critien pushed Galea inside the area, but from the resultant penalty goalkeeper Manuel Bartolo blocked Matthew Portelli's shot.

In the last minutes both teams tried in vain to obtain the winner, but both teams failed in front of goal.
