A group of BOV Young Savers was invited on a tour of the Tarxien Temples, where the BOV Tarxien Temples Project is being undertaken by Heritage Malta with the financial support of the Bank of Valletta.
The children were the winners of a competition that featured in the December issue of the BOV Young Savers newsletter. Tarxien Temples site curator Rueben Grima explained the historic significance of the Temples and the current work being undertaken by Heritage Malta through the BOV Tarxien Temples Project. Also present on this cultural tour was Cikkurillu, BOV’s popular young savers’ mascot.
Addressing the children and their parents, Bank of Valletta head of marketing integration Cliff Pace said: “By inviting the winners of this Young Savers competition on a tour of this World Heritage Site, the bank is proud to promote Malta’s rich cultural heritage amongst youngsters.”
He continued: “Bank of Valletta is a keen supporter of Malta’s heritage and in 2003 took over the patronage of this site. Through the BOV Tarxien Temples Project, it is planned that the visitors’ experience at this prime historic site will be greatly enhanced.”
Reuben Grima, intrigued the children with his detailed account of the significance of the Tarxien temples. He explained how the site was discovered and excavated, and what may be learnt from it about Malta’s prehistoric inhabitants.
The children also had an opportunity to ask questions about the temples and the work being undertaken through BOV’s support.
