Pomposity

Malta Independent Saturday, 19 February 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

I was not in the least surprised by Mr J.G. Vassallo’s reaction (TMID 16 February) to my criticism of his opinion piece entitled Where is the silver lining, least of all by his poorly veiled criticism of the editorial discretion to decide what is sublime and what is ridiculous.

Mr Vassallo’s overbearing inflated ego and gargantuan self-importance became evident from a very early age. This can only be appreciated by consistently following his political track record, especially during the years between 1950 and 1962.

Mr Vassallo is a consistent backer of lame horses and losers. In his salad days, he had the audacity to proclaim bombastically to the world, “What the Maltese think (Politically)”. (January 1958).

No doubt Mr Vassallo’s lop-sided contributions are sublime; everyone else who dares to criticise his blinkered opinion is ridiculous. Such is the conceit that seem to get more brazen and more revealing with age.
