St. George's obtained a very precious win against Balzan in a direct clash in the lower part of the table. The Saints obtained their victory with two late goals that turned the tide in their favour.

One must say that Balzan deserved something more from this match which they dominated for long stretches especially in the first part of the match.

Their position is now rather desperate as they are still in ninth place with the Saints now six clear points ahead of them.

Balzan had a flying start creating many scoring chances, but the Saints' rearguard remained intact thanks to some fine saves by their goalkeeper Andrea Gatt. Marlow and Gilbert Scerri were very efficient for Balzan in the first part, with Monreal dangerous with his runs on the flank.

On 13 minutes Scerri had a fine personal move but his final shot was blocked by Gatt. The latter was again called in action from a close range shot by Monreal. Following a corner action, a Jerryton Agius shot was saved by Gatt, who minutes later had to dive to save an angled shot by Monreal.

The Saints' first danger was through a bad clearance by defender Dean Gera and Ranier Farrugia tipped into a corner. From the resultant corner St George's took the lead with Ewurun scoring from close range.

St George's played the better football following this unexpected lead, and Balzan's only chance came from a Marlow freekick that was again saved by a brilliant Gatt.

Balzan introduced Relic at the start of the second half, even though he did not leave an impact on the team and was substituted after 30 minutes. Balzan obtained a deserved equaliser on 55 minutes when Alistair Camilleri headed in from close range a cross from the right by Caruana.

Balzan continued to show territorial superiority but the Saints were unlucky on 67 minutes when a Spiteri shot from the edge of the area hit the base of the upright and Farrugia was on hand to save Darmanin's shot from the rebound.

With six minutes to go St George's scored the second goal when Anthony Bonello headed in a corner taken by Brincat. Two minutes later the Saints sealed the issue with their third goal when Schembri beat Caruana on the run, his shot was saved by Farrugia but Ewurun was on hand to score from the rebound.
