Postponed Matches to be played today

Malta Independent Monday, 21 February 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 22 years ago

The two Championship Pool matches scheduled for Saturday but which were postponed due to an unfit pitch, are to be played this evening at the national stadium, Ta’ Qali.

Valletta will be meeting Marsaxlokk at 6pm and in the second match, Hibernians come up against Birkirkara.

After Sliema’s victory over Floriana yesterday, all the four clubs, especially Valletta, Hibernians and Birkirkara will be looking forward to win the points at stake, not to lose contact.

But even Marsaxlokk will be seeking precious points in their quest to move further up the table, if not for the title, then for a runner-up place which will mean a guaranteed place in the UEFA Cup next season.

The two matches are expected to be keenly contested, but in the second match, the Stripes will have to play this important encounter with the suspended defenders Precious Monye and Mark Anthony Bonnici.

In their most recent matches, Valletta and Marsaxlokk figured in a 1-1 draw, while Hibernians beat Birkirkara 4-2.
