The third Ranking Tournament of the season played at the University Gym came to an end last Friday. A very positive point to mention, is that in this tournament, a record number of entries was registered in all events especially in the juniors sector.

After losing the Grand Prix held earlier this month, Mario Genovese proved that he still can be one of Malta’s top players when in the final of the Men’s Singles he convincingly beat Edward Baldacchino by 13-11, 11-6,11-5,11-8.

In the other events, top cadet player Matthew Micallef beat Stefan Grech by 14-12, 8-11, 11-6,11-6 in the cadets under-15 while in a very close match Sergei Mikhailenko won against Robert Carbonaro by 16-18, 11-4, 11-5, 4-11, 11-7 in the Juniors under18 section.

In the Plate event Charles Sammut beat Alan Alden by 11-7, 11-5, 11-4.

After this tournament, the National League will continue next Friday.
