Saturday Ennui

Malta Independent Thursday, 3 March 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

Your Saturday’s Opinion writer, Mr J.G. Vassallo really sees himself as the cat’s whiskers of Maltese journalism.

Last Saturday’s (TMID 26 February) opinion was a highly pretentious, finger wagging, tedious lecture, on the correct application of editorial discretion and modus operandi generally.

So dear Mr Editor, consider yourself suitably chastised by your correspondent, and mend your ways to fit in with his lofty expectation of wholesome journalism!

Perhaps Mr Vassallo should ponder on yet another British adage, “those who can, do – and those who cannot, teach”.

As a long-standing avid reader of The Malta Independent, I have to confess that this particular ‘opinion’ has degenerated into a highly noisome, albeit predictable, regular Saturday yawn of hippopotamus proportions.

Can you suggest to Mr Vassallo that enlightening us on the copulating habits of Japanese Sumo wrestlers, or perhaps those of the recently discovered Pygmy tribe of Amazon cannibals, make more interesting reading than the recent lectures embarked upon.

Alternatively, he can give us his ‘opinion’ on the whirling propensity of dervishes.
