The letter by Martin Debono (TMID, 4 March) about the fact that his son had to pay another Lm2.50 above the Lm20 fee for the renewal of his motor licence, is not news to me, because on 16 October 2004, I wrote a letter in this newspaper (titled, Another Tax), saying that besides Lm20 fee for the renewal my son was also forced to pay the Lm2.50 as administrative fee.
I wonder then how the customer care section of the Office of the Prime Minister seemed quite surprised to hear a similar complaint when this tax has been in force since October. I wonder if this is legal, but most probably it is because it is called a charge, not a tax.
I can also say that ADT is not used to acknowledge registered letters sent to its chairman.
At least this is what happened to me, although it was on a different subject. I must say, is it necessary that ADT be autonomous?
Going back to this imposed tax, Mr Debono’s son, my son and many more like them were forced to pay Lm2.50 and will never pay before another 10 years, but what about those pensioners who have to renew their licence every one or two years. Are they going charged (taxed) each time?
Please, Mr Prime Minister, do care about what is happening around.
