Libertas CC of Pembroke should thank heavens for an almost ideal setting for their 2005 cycling road race held on St. Paul’s by-pass with the co-operation of the St Paul’s Bay local council.
The sun was shining and the road surface was perfectly smooth and also dry.
To avoid over using arterial North passage way, the Club attempted to start even earlier than usual and actually succeeded to free the traffic flow about an hour before scheduled time.
After dominating most of the race, the Galea brothers made a fine show entering hand in hand especially when David nudged his brother. that extra fraction of a second ahead of himself making a realistic show of team work. Their average speed was 1 km/1.7 mins.
The prizes were awarded to the winners by Libertas CC officials Clyde Camilleri and Charles Cioffi.
The Club is grateful to S. Pawl il-Bahar LC and the Traffic Police Division without whose sterling assistance this road race could not be held.
The Maltese cyclists were reminded that they need to register with their club delegates by noon Friday 18 March for the Tour of Malta which will take place from 7 to 10 April. A full entry by foreign teams has been recorded.
