BOV Employees stage successful talent show

Malta Independent Thursday, 24 March 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

For the third consecutive year Bank of Valletta employees demonstrated their artistic talents and creativity, during the BOV Talent Show 2005. The show was staged recently, over two nights, at St Agatha’s Auditorium in Rabat.

This year the show took on a completely innovative format depicting a delightful and original script specifically written for the occasion by Mr John Galea (branch manager – Birkirkara).

The story unfolds to narrate the entertaining sequence of events that occur when a spacecraft and its alien crew, originally destined to land in a major city on earth, accidentally land in a typical Maltese village of the early 1900s. The underlying theme, a ‘romantic-comedy’, described the comical situations that arise when an alien captures the heart of a local girl.

Using this as the basic framework, the production cleverly incorporated pop and rock performances delivered by the alien rock band and dancers, with contrasting traditional folk renditions of local song and dance delivered by the choir who were accompanied by dancers in Maltese period costumes. The choreography was expertly taken care of by Jes Sciberras while Marika Fenech ably conducted the choir.

The production was entirely staged by BOV employees, from the script and choreography to the cast and crew, including the construction of a beautiful set and backdrop that depicted a traditional local village pjazza. The audience on both nights was treated to a spectacle of drama, song and dance excellently delivered by the BOV staff members, which rendered the show an undoubted success.

Igino Xuereb (chief officer – operations) congratulated all those who participated in the talent show, and voluntarily contributed their free time to make the show a success. Mr Xuereb added that the bank is proud to foster such dedication, team spirit and creativity amongst its employees.
