Vodafone Sponsors University Engineering Students Association

Malta Independent Thursday, 24 March 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Vodafone Malta Limited is sponsoring the University Engineering Students Association (UESA), a non-political student organisation which is directed towards students who are enrolled in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Malta. This commitment from Vodafone will help the association to continue to grow in a sustainable way.

“Vodafone has always been at the forefront of helping Maltese students with their every day academic life. Through this sponsorship engineering students enrolled at the University of Malta will be in a better position to obtain traineeships and showcase their work on an international level. Vodafone is demonstrating its continued commitment to ensure that the already very high standard of Maltese engineers is not only maintained but also enhanced,” said Ing. Joseph Muscat, chief technical officer at Vodafone Malta.

Since its birth the UESA’s main aim is to help engineering students familiarise and accustom themselves with the University life, offer help and aid for their various needs and provide them with both local and foreign working traineeships.

These objectives are achieved by building a good relationship with the staff at the faculty so as to serve as a bridge between the student and the lecturers and by organising various activities such as parties, football tournaments and other events to spice up the engineering students’ life during their studies.

“The UESA organises seminars during which established engineers give talks on different subjects to help aspiring engineers get an insight into their future profession. In 2004, the UESA was officially admitted in the European Young Engineers (EYE) council, thus representing engineering students on an international level. The UESA is also recognised by the Chamber of Engineers, having its own active representative in the chamber’s executive. Without sponsorships such as Vodafone’s, it would be very hard for our association to cover the expenses such initiatives incur. On behalf of the UESA, I would like to thank Vodafone for their support,” said, Mark Scicluna, president of UESA.
