From Mr V. Magro
Way back in the 1960s, Qawra Point had been planned and built to strict conditions to which all properties of the time conformed. However, a new development at Triq is-Sallur, Qawra, seems to have ‘escaped the net’.
Properties in Triq is-Sallur, Triq l-Isturjun, Triq Ras il-Qawra and Qawra Coast Road were, among other conditions, restricted to a maximum height (27 feet from street level).
No buildings in the streets mentioned were permitted to have wash rooms on the roof, in fact not even a boundary wall at roof level was permitted. It is also worth mentioning that the area was initially a villa or semi-detached villa area. The only exception is this new development in Triq is-Sallur
Assuming that the said development is covered by a valid permit and that the said development conforms with the conditions imposed in the permit, did MEPA take into consideration visual integrity? Because
they definitely did not care
about retaining the area’s symmetrical design when issuing the permit!
It is the property owners in the area that have to live with such discrimination, while seeing the value of their property dwindle.
