During on second week holidaying here my sister and I hired a car to tour your beautiful island.
Armed with a map and 30 years of experience driving in many countries we set off with confidence.
But oh dear, the road numbers so neatly indicated on our map were nowhere to be seen. Which road were we on? Where were the signposts?
Ah, there is one – Rabat. Let us go there. Aaargh, road-works and no diversion signs to lead us round the trouble.
Stuck in the Rabat triangle. Would we ever escape?
We soon realised that any road-signs are only legible when one is almost on top of them and too late to turn.
During our three-day tour we travelled only 260km but passed by many minor accidents. Fortunately we escaped one ourselves.
Mostly due to the ‘Guess where you are’ map we found many wonderful places where we enjoyed taking in the scenery and taking photographs.
Our advice to any tourists setting out on a mystery tour: Take a packed lunch and do not expect to arrive at your intended destination by the logical route.
We leave for home in England on 27 April and will take with us many happy memories and funny stories.
