So that’s that then. Four games of the season left and the title is as good as sown up.

Following Wednesday night’s draw with Arsenal, only a mathematical disaster of cosmic proportions will see Chelsea miss out. Victory over Fulham yesterday gave them a minimum lead of 14 points with just 12 left to play for and that, to me, is game set and match to Mourinho’s boys.

It’s not like we didn’t see it coming. Chelsea’s first title win for 50 years has been on the cards for months now as they have been the only team to show champion-like consistency for the entire season.

And, as much as I don’t like the way the have gone about it, using Roman’s millions to effectively buy their success, I don’t begrudge the manager, players or even the fans their achievement.

I have made no secret from day one that I think spending tens of millions on players in an effort to achieve greatness is not what football is all about. As a gradual process maybe, but 100 million at a go is just not in the spirit of the game.

But, having said that, what Jose has put together at Stamford Bridge is undoubtedly something special. It may not always have been the most attractive team on display in the Premier League, but it is certainly the most effective.

And with only Arsenal outscoring them over the course of the campaign it is also grossly unfair of people – especially Arsene Wenger – to try and label Chelsea as boring.

With the League Cup already in the bag and the title certain to follow it, only the Champion’s League remains for Mourinho’s team to complete what is certainly a remarkable trebble in his first season in charge.

And I definitely wouldn’t bet against that happening.

Meanwhile while the race at the top of the table is pretty much over, the race at the bottom looks like it is only just beginning.

Victory for Norwich and a creditable draw for West Brom midweek have thrown the whole relegation situation wide open. Although you can say Portsmouth and Fulham are probably safe, any three of the bottom four could easily get sucked back into the Championship.

On current form it would look like Southampton and Crystal Palace are almost certainly going down. Norwich may be rooted to the bottom on goal difference but they seem to have struck a rich vein of form in recent weeks and may yet pull themselves away from trouble.

But my overwhelming favourites to escape the drop out of the bottom four are most certainly West Brom. It seems Robbo has worked his magic quite wonderfully at the Hawthorns and their form over the past two months has been that of a side which should be challenging for Europe, not battling to avoid playing Crewe next season.

Although it feels like the end of the season there is still a lot of football to be played and neutrals will certainly be keeping their eyes on the bottom of the table now that the top is pretty much sorted.

This is one battle that looks like it really will go to the wire.

Malcolm Glazer

While Old Trafford fans may be split on whether or not Sir Alex should depart and make way for a new face, there is one subject on which they seem totally united – Malcolm Glazer should not be allowed to buy their club.

There has been constant speculation over whether or not the American tycoon will take over at United throughout the course of the season, speculation that has reached fever pitch in recent weeks.

But United supporters, the very essence of the club, are totally and utterly opposed to Glazer getting his hands on it. And this feeling is echoed quite passionately by the club’s shareholders who fear the club could follow Leeds down the path to monetary ruin if he succeeds in his takeover.

“He risks plunging United into a financial meltdown which would make Leeds look like the equivalent of missing an HP payment on the telly,” shareholders spokesman Sean Bones said this week.
