Malta Pirates astonish competition in invitational tournament The Malta Pirates used teamwork, skill, heart, and shear determination to finish an outstanding second in the 2005 CAE Dubai mighty camels invitational ice hockey tournament. They played 6 grueling games in 3 days and this success guarantees the team automatic qualification to next year's tournament.

A total of 17 teams took part in the tournament with Malta being one of only two european entries. All the other teams hailed from Middle East states. However it must be said that most teams featured a fair number of western expatriates including a vast number Canadian players.

The Malta Pirates delegation consisted of twelve players along with their coach Jan Hallkvist and assistant coach Ray Sciberras. Four loyal supporters also made the trip and had much to cheer for.

This was an unforgettable experience for all the participants, and a truly memorable opportunity to see so many players, from around the world, demonstrate fantastic ice hockey skills.

With their participation and success in the tournament, the Malta Pirates once again proved their love for one of the fastest and most exciting games in the world.

Their participation in the tournament was only made possible by the sponsorship and supporters of companies like McDonalds, CNC, the MIA and Emirates.

This success has only fortified the aim of all local ice sports enthusiasts to develop an ice sports facility here in Malta.

The Malta Pirates, together with the Malta International Ice Sports Association will continue with its lobbying so as to achieve their goal of having a sustainable ice sports program for the island.
