Rugby Girls for Prague

Malta Independent Friday, 13 May 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The Malta Women’s Rugby Team squad is taking part in the European Sevens Tournament in Prague this coming weekend.

Coach Bobby Bonavia has had them training daily under the supervision of National Coach Damien Neill, playing tag rugby against some of the men’s teams to sharpen them up.

Malta are drawn in Pool A and will play Bosnia, Norway, Russia, Hungary and Czech Republic.

Pool B consists of Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Israel, Bulgaria and Austria.

This will be a very tough test against physically daunting opponents for the Maltese girls who will probably be lucky to win a match, especially as they leave Malta tomorrow at 3am, arrive in Prague at 6am and play their first game at 10am.

The ten- girl squad is made up of:

Colette Abela, Nathalie Vassallo, Charlene Vassallo, Esther Farrugia, Sara Vella, Adelaide Sammut, Annamarie Vella, Nadia Gosney, Emma Fenech-Soler and Romina Vella. Together with MRFU representatives and supporters the Maltese contingent is made up of 19 persons.
