Speaker of the House Anton Tabone received Turkish ambassador Sitki Ugur Ziyal at his chambers on Friday.

Issues of common interest were discussing during the meeting, particularly those relating to cooperation between parliamentary institutions in both countries. Mr Tabone and ambassador Ziyal expressed the hope that an ongoing dialogue be established at parliamentary level, thus enhancing parliamentary diplomacy between the two sides.

The meeting also focused on issues pertaining to the Mediterranean, in particular the setting up of a Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly under the aegis of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the 10th anniversary of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership and Turkey’s membership of the European Union.

Ambassador Ziyal handed Speaker Tabone an invitation from the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly to visit Turkey.
