Malta’s Andorra Adventure starts next Sunday

Malta Independent Monday, 16 May 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Malta’s adventure in the forthcoming Andorra Games for the European Small Nations will get under way next Sunday with the departure of the contingent’s Chef de Mission, Pippo Psaila, to make the final preparations before the arrival of the athletes.

Psaila has already attended some technical meetings in Andorra and during the last one, in April, the heads of delegations gave their final approval for all the venues where the different sports disciplines will be staged.

The local athletes will not be travelling together as a group. Some of them are to travel earlier to get accustomed to the high altitude as Andorra is a mountainous place.

While the local shooters will be taking part in a top tournament in Lonato, Italy, next week, the Maltese cyclists, the table-tennis and tennis players will be leaving Malta on Tuesday next week and they will be followed two days later, by some other athletes.

The majority of the athletes will be travelling with the MOC officials on Sunday 29 May, arriving in Andorra late in the evening of the same day.

Malta is to have a contingent of 60 athletes, considered to be one of the smallest ever in recent years.
