Court: Jailed For seven years for drug possession, trafficking

A man was jailed for seven years and fined Lm4,000 after being found guilty of being in possession of heroin and cannabis and trafficking the drug.

Sandro Mifsud was found guilty of being in possession of and trafficking heroin on and before 12 August 1996 and also of relapsing.

Handing down her judgment, Magistrate Abigail Lofaro said the court had given Mifsud several chances to get his life back on track when he was given various probation orders for drug possession and theft, among others. She said he continued to live a criminal life and is at present in jail. She jailed him for seven years and fined him Lm4,000. She also ordered that the time he spent in preventive custody be reduced from the prison term.

Police inspector Nicholas Ciappara prosecuted.
