Protection Of vulnerable children on PBS

Malta Independent Thursday, 19 May 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The Commissioner for Children supports fully the initiative taken by PBS for the protection of vulnerable children under 16 years of age who have been invited to participate on media programmes.

The circular asks that programmes featuring children under the age of 16 who have some kind of problems, and who will be exposed on TV, will first have to be referred to Agenzija Appogg. Agenzija Appogg will examine the case and issue a professional recommendation on whether damage will be done or otherwise by exposing the child.

The Commissioner believes that it is with positive actions of this kind that vulnerable children can be protected, as can be seen also from the guidelines regarding participation in media programmes of vulnerable persons.

The Commissioner for Children encourages other broadcasting stations to adopt such policies for the protection of vulnerable children.
