After the great success achieved in the Karate World Cup for clubs in Vasto Italy, last month, SKSM KARATE MALTA again took part in another International Karate Championships in Eindhoven, Holland.

The Maltese team, headed by Chris Galea, included Kristabel Borg, Andrew Galea, Joanne Attard and Samwel Schembri. All athletes competed in Kumite (fighting). This was the 12th Open Kumite Championships which is held every year in this country with a pool of over 350 athletes from different European countries.

The results achieved by the Maltese contingent were one Silver medal (K. Borg) and two bronze medals (S. Schembri and J. Attard). Another medal was awarded to Andrew Galea for the best performance in his category.

Chris Galea, coach and head of SKSM Karate Malta, was very proud with the performance of his students. These were very encouraging results, and show good commitment from SKSM athletes to represent Malta in the field of Sport Karate.

Soon, another team comprising nine athletes from SKSM will be heading to Avellino in Italy, for another Karate Championship in order to compete and represent again the school and Malta in this eight nations international championship which include Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Romania, Egypt, Israel, Italy and Malta.

In the meantime, all other members of SKSM are going through an intensive preparation programme for the next events in Malta, the SKSM Juniors and Cadets Championships, Kata Challenge Trophy and the third edition of the Malta Open to be held next July.

SKSM is a school, offering its members opportunities to represent Malta in international meetings in both the sports and traditional side of Karate. At the moment courses are open for both children and adults with classes conducted every day during the week at the SKSM Karate Centre in Mosta.
