New Committee for the Association of Speech Language Pathologists

During the annual general meeting of the Association of Speech Language Pathologists (ASLP), held recently, the members present elected a new committee for the coming year. The committee comprises of, Ms Gertrude A. Buttigieg as president, Ms Josette Portelli, vice-president and Ms Norma Camilleri, secretary. The post of treasurer was filled in by Ms Sandra Ameen whilst Ms Gabrielle Ransley was elected liaison officer. The three committee members are Ms Dorianne Pirotta, Ms Amanda Muscat and Ms Gertrude Sammut. The newly formed committee aims to further enhance the profession of Speech Language Pathologists by keeping to Code of Ethics, improving professional standards, public awareness as well as contributing to its’ members’ professional development.

The year 2005 is also an important year for the ASLP since it marks the 20th anniversary since its foundation. Over the years, the profession has grown following an increase in the number of graduates. The ASLP has been affiliated with the Federation of Professional Bodies since 1985, and has contributed to the enhancement of the profession as well as other professions.

The ASLP also has international recognition and is affiliated with the International Association for Logopedics and Phoniatrics.
