Family Day out with a purpose

Malta Independent Tuesday, 31 May 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Employees of De La Rue (Malta) Ltd spent a day out with their families for a good cause on Sunday at the Hal Far Civil Protection Depot.

One of the countries worst affected by the tsunami that hit South East Asia last December was Sri Lanka, where De La Rue’s operation has local Albert Zammit as general manager.

All De La Rue plants around the world immediately sent financial aid to Sri Lanka and with the money collected, ten new houses were built within a few months.

On the imitative of the De La Rue (Malta) Philanthropic Committee, employees, families and friends are aiming to fill a large container with household goods and utensils for the new houses.

The Civil Protection Department agreed to help De La Rue with the logistics, and a number of Civil Protection Department employees, including director Peter Cordina, were present during the day’s activities.

The St John Ambulance and a Medical Response Unit were also present throughout the day.

Children accompanying their parents spent most of the day enjoying a bouncing castle and playing games organised by the committee and members of the Civil Protection Department gave a fire-fighting demonstration.

De La Rue (Malta) general manager Ron Feenan thanked the Philanthropic Committee, employees and friends for their commitment to a worthy cause. He also thanked the Civil Protection Department for their assistance.
