Games For European Small States – Tennis: Camenzuli and Pashanski advance to the medal zone

Malta Independent Thursday, 2 June 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Lisa Camenzuli and Boris Pashanski advanced to the semi-finals of the singles competition yesterday when they both won their matches convincingly.

In the women’s event, Camenzuli showed off all her aggressive style as she mauled Akritas Pavlina of Cyprus 6-2 6-1, taking command from the start.

She is now in the semi-final and is assured of a bronze medal, at least.

Also assured of a bronze at least is Boris Pashanki who, however, is considered to be the favourite to win the men’s singles title this time round.

Yesterday he found little opposition from San Marino’s William Forcellini as Malta’s player won 6-1 6-1 in a one-sided affair.

There was some disappointment in the tennis clan later yesterday as the men's doubles pair of Boris Pashanski and Daniel Ceross were eliminated as they lost their opening match.

They went down to Bram and Kremer of Luxembourg.

The Maltese duo had a good start as they took the lead by winning the first set, but the opponents from Luxembourg started playing better and eventually emerged victorious 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
