The swimmers kept up the medal rush on day two of the GSSE with a double bronze medal at the Serradells swimming pool.

Malta’s girls overpowered the pool to defend their 4x100m freestyle relay bronze medal they won in 2003. The Maltese quartet of Davina Mangion, Angela Galea, Roberta Callus and Francesca Paolella beat off competition from Cyprus to finish third with a time of 9.16.58s.

Earlier on, Angela Galea added another medal to the gold she won on Tuesday when she took bronze in the women’s 100m butterfly. She clocked a time of 1.04.84.

At the end of the medal ceremony, an exhausted Angela Galea told reporters that she was very tired but at the same time happy for winning another two medals.

“This success will surely help to get recognition at national level and to lift our sport among the elite disciplines in Malta”, she ended.

In the 400m men’s final, Neil Agius could only finish fifth in a time of four minutes 19.32 seconds.

And Davina Mangion finished seventh in the 400m freestyle final, clocking 4:51.94.
