From Ms A. Mifsud
Coming to terms with Julian Manduca’s sudden loss has been very difficult. Julian was uniqueness personified, a one of a kind, with no hunger for society’s vices of power, money or fame. Yet he was a wealth of environmental knowledge, with a great ability to translate his sensitivity for the environment into simple everyday actions. He had a deep non-compromising environmental ethic that is unmatched even among the most active of us in the environmental scene.
To many he might have been perceived as a “non-conformist”, an “idealist”, a “dreamer”. If only all of us believed and lived his ideals, the world would surely be a better, fairer and healthier place. Julian had a passion for life and was a shining example to all that respecting the environment and having an enjoyable lifestyle can coexist. He had a great love for mother earth and led by example that humans are simply a part of nature, no more no less. To those who knew him in green circles, he was a pillar of strength with untiring stamina. Julian unselfishly fought with perseverance for true environmental justice. He applied his journalistic skills as best he could to bring environmental issues to the Maltese public.
May his values, qualities and motivation serve as an example to our younger generation. We need more Julians! Julian lives on in our lives through the environment around us. May the seeds he has sown find the strength, even under such tragic circumstances, to grow and flourish.
