Sliema cruised through their second match, obtaining the league’s highest score yet.

They hit Valletta hard straight from the start, rifling in three quick goals, as Edward Aquilina scored the first of his six goals in the match.

The second session was even worse for Valletta as the champions continued to pile up the goals. Valletta managed a penalty late in the session, in between two failed man-up attempts, and at the half-way mark, it was a 10-2 game.

Sliema put in Ryan Coleiro in goal for the rest of the match as they held command of the game, scoring five times without reply and missing their only man-up in six attempts. With such a high score, Sliema could afford to relax a little, especially after scoring twice with a player more.

For Valletta, Edwin Pisani gained his hat-trick with two late goals.

In this match, Ronnie Spiteri made his debut as a referee after a long career as a player.

Marsaxlokk 2

(0-2, 0-3, 1-4, 1-4)

Marsaxlokk: R. Bonnici, S. Cachia, R. Calleja, A. Farrugia, N. Kerr, C. Bugeja 2, C. Jones, S. Cutajar, M. Fava, D. Cassar, M. Cutajar, G. Zammit.

Sirens joined the other three top clubs at the helm with an easy win over Marsaxlokk.

They duly converted their three man-up situations whereas Marsaxlokk failed dismally in all their seven extra player moments.

It was really a quiet start as the St Paul’s Bay side had a double lead in the first session and they improved their score with three more goals as Marsaxlokk failed to capitalise on three man-ups.

After the interval, Sirens kept pressing their opponents who, however, managed to score after a double blockage in front of the Sirens goal found Charles Bugeja alone to plant the ball in the net.

Sirens scored another four goals in the last session, as in the third one. Marsaxlokk also lost a penalty but Duncan Cassar gained possession again from the resultant save and passed to Charles Bugeja, again unmarked, for their second goal. After that, they frittered four consecutive extra player advantages.

As in the previous game, there was another refereeing debut, with Peter Giordano officiating after his playing days were long over.
