Neptunes had no difficulty to register their fourth consecutive win when facing modest Valletta. The scoreline, the biggest win so far in the season, clearly indicates the superiority the reds demonstrated all throughout the game.
Regular custodian Nicky Gouder was missing for Neptunes as was Edward Cachia. In fact reserve keeper Dean Camilleri started the game and was then replaced by youngster Andrea Sammut later in the game.
With six consecutive goals in the first session, the Reds, through their breakaway game, took the upper hand and then continued to expose the citizens’ weaknesses.
John Brownrigg had a field day with a nap-hand (two of the goals on a man-up where Neptunes had a 75% success rate on eight expulsions) while four of his team-mates had a personal hat-trick among them Niki Lanzon and Steve Camilleri who are presently the best scorers for Sergio Afric’s side with 14 and 13 respectively.
Valletta’s reply was through Mario Zammit on a man-up (one on four for Valletta) at 7-1 and David Saliba scoring for a momentary 14-2 score.
