The newly-appointed chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority, Romwald Lungaro-Mifsud, has a package which consists of a salary of Lm25,000 plus a performance bonus of up to a maximum of Lm5,000, a car and a driver as well as telephone and medical insurance.
Further lists of the remuneration packages of chairpersons and members of appointed boards were laid on the Table of the House following questions by Chris Agius.
The replies by Tourism and Culture Minister Francis Zammit Dimech showed that Dr Mario Tabone, the chairman of Heritage Malta and the Malta Centre for Restoration, has a package of Lm7,000 plus a car and driver as well as mobile phone expenses.
Of the members of the board, Simone Mizzi gets Lm2,800, while Mgr J Azzopardi, Prof A Bonanno, Dr Ray Bondin, Mario Farrugia, John Cremona and Leslie Vella get Lm1,000 each. Prof Alfred Vella gets Lm1,200 but only for a Heritage Malta post.
Prof. J. Friggieri gets Lm6,000 for chairing the Kunsill Malti ghall-Kultura u l-Arti while board members Josef Camilleri, Charles Stroud, George Glanville, Norbert Attard, Lara Strickland, Prof. Peter Serracino Inglott and Prof. Charles Camilleri get Lm1,200 each.
Wilfred Kenely gets Lm5,000 for the chairmanship of Teatru Manoel while board members Michael Cutugno, Salv Stellini, Jon Rosser, Chris Mifsud, Giselle Calleja and Maria Ghirlando get Lm900 each.
Lino Attard gets Lm3,500 for the chairmanship of the National Orchestra while board members Rosette Fenech, Emy Scicluna, Marlene Schranz, Alina Darmanin and Alfred Theuma get Lm250 a year each.
Maurice de Giorgio and Michael Fenech provide services to Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti and Fondazzjoni Centru ghall-Krejattivita ta’ San Gakbu, respectively, free of charge.
Dr Peter Fenech gets Lm4,500 plus a refund for mobile phone expenses for his work at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, while Eugenio Privitelli gets Lm3,000 and Maj Alfred Cassar Reynaud, Dr Conrad Thake and Dr JP Farrugia get Lm900 a year each.
The members of the MTA board – Peter Bolech, Joe Cappello, George Fenech, Christine Muscat, Joseph Muscat, Jon Sciberras, Dr Nadia Theuma, Ian Tonna, Franco Valletta and Justin Zammit Tabona get an honorarium of Lm520 a year and Lm40 for every board meeting they attend.
The chairman of the MTA enforcement directorate Anthony Cachia gets Lm1,000 plus an honorarium of Lm520 a year and Lm40 for every MTA board meeting which he attends as a non-voting member. Enforcement board members Therese Delia and Dr Paul Pullicino get an honorarium of Lm260 a year and Lm20 for every enforcement directorate meeting they attend.
Remunerations are far lower in the Education Ministry.
Bastjan Debono gets Lm500 a year as chairman of the Exams Department while board members John R. Gatt, Doris Borg and Frances Sammut get Lm300 a year.
Victor Scicluna gets Lm6,221 a year as chairman of MCAST while the MCAST board members – Prof. Roger Ellul Micallef, Stephen Debono, Andrew Mamo, Emanuel Ellul, Helga Ellul, Frederick Fearne, Mario C. Grech, Joyce Pullicino and Dr Cecilia Borg give their services for free.
Kenneth Wain gets Lm1,000 a year as FES chairman while board members Frans Borg, Salvina Muscat, Mary Rose Mifsud and Raymond J. Camilleri provide their services for free.
Dr Robert Tufigno gets Lm6,000 for his chairmanship of ETC while board members Prof. Edward Zammit, Dr Rosalyn Borg, Joseph M. Camilleri, Louis Cuschieri, Anna Maria Darmanin, Carmen Delia, Joseph Farrugia, Anton Hili, Ray Muscat and James H. Pearsall get Lm1,200 a year.
Franco Azzopardi gets Lm6,000 as chairperson of KMS while board members Bartholomew Muscat, Joe Bajada, Catherine Borg, Joseph Cassar, Andrew Decelis, Lara Gerada and Stephen Zammit get Lm1,000 a year.
Mario Falzon gets Lm2,000 as chairperson of the Cooperatives Board while board members Roland Micallef Attard, Dr Nichola S. Bonanno, Caryl Cassar and Tony Muscat get Lm500 a year.
Things get positively pauper-level at the Rural Affairs and the Environment.
The chairpersons of various boards in the Agricultural Services and Rural Development Division do not receive any remuneration for their work, such as George Carbone for the Competent Authority on Organic Farming, Eman Calleja on the Organic Farming Advisory Board, David Dandria on the Pesticides Control Board, Anthony Mifsud on the Finance Assistance Commission, David Dandria on the Committee for the setting up of Producer Organisations, Anthony Mifsud for the IACS Conciliation Board and Dr Marica Gatt for the Resolution of Disputes Board.
Nor do Dr Mireille Vella for the Animal Welfare Council, Dr Carm Lino Vella for the Veterinary Surgeons Council and Paul Spiteri for the National Broiler Committee.
Nor does Dr Anthony Gruppetta for the Fisheries Board.
Anthony Attard gets Lm300 for chairing the Waste Tenders Adjudicating Board.
The Prime Minister, or the person who chairs the National Commission for Sustainable Development, does not receive any remuneration for such a burden.
MEPA chairman Andrew Calleja gets an annual honorarium of Lm10,000, the provision of a car with fuel plus phone, mobile phone and internet expenses as well as private hospital cover for himself, his spouse and his dependants.
Nick de Giorgio gets Lm594 a month and a further Lm902 a month for expenses related to his office as WasteServ Malta chairman while board members including company secretary Dr Pierre Lofaro, Marco Abela, Euchar Mizzi, Ing. Alex Tranter and Magda Magri Naudi get Lm125 a month plus Lm15 for every extra section.
