In light of the tragedy at the Zebbug fireworks factory earlier this week, Opposition MP Marie Louise Coleiro has appealed to the authorities to improve training in firework production to safeguard the health of those who produce them while keeping the Maltese tradition alive.

Ms Coleiro extended her condolences to the families of the Zebbug victims and said the MLP is offering all the support and help it can.

She reminded all those who produce fireworks, that despite all their knowledge of the craft, the risk in this line of work is ever-present.

She also added that despite this tragedy, people must not forget the dedication, talent and artistic creativity that goes into making fireworks, therefore speculation or misjudgements on what might have happened are not in the least productive.
