“Friendship is not always easily described. It is said that the Eskimos have a hundred different words for “snow”. Instead of different words, however, we use simple adjectives like close friend, best friend, childhood friend, intimate friend, trusted friend and and innumerable other adjectives.
But whatever word we use the fact still remains that friends are special people and we can choose as many as we like....and what better way than to strike up a friendship through sport?
To quote John Harkes – Youth Soccer Month spokesman “Sport brings people together – the friendships that I’ve made through sport (soccer) have taught me, stretched me and have provided me with most of the highlights of my life”
Sport plays a very important part in the development of friendship. There are no language barriers because all sportsmen and women speak just one language - the language of sport. Lifetime friendships between people from all walks of life in countries all over the worlds know their origin through sport, because sport provides relationships that extend far beyond the fields of play and competition.
