Outcome Of consultation process on privatisation of Sea Malta

Malta Independent Wednesday, 20 July 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The Malta Federation of Industry (FOI) has noted that following a consultation process with its member companies, Atlantica S.p.a. di Navigazione has agreed to provide a shipping schedule and routes which guarantee both security and reliability.

The FOI had consistently and repeatedly argued that it is not against the concept of privatisation, as long as the service to the local industry is retained in its efficiency and reliability.

This position was made public on a number of occasions, and eventually led to an agreement, both with the government and the prospective new owner, to consult with members of industry so as to understand their requirements.

FOI members responded to this consultation process and a number of one-to-one meetings were held.

As a result, concerns about the schedule and routes were addressed and solutions identified.

The federation is also aware that a contingency plan in cases of national urgency is being discussed and the parties involved are close to finding a workable solution.

The federation concluded by saying it hopes the new owners of Sea Malta will continue to recognise the need to consult with industry’s representatives and thus ensure a healthy relationship which will benefit all parties.
