Five People charged in court

Court was opened yesterday for three arraignments during which five people were charged with threatening police officers and cannabis possession.

Maher Navel Elmetni, aged 28, from St Paul’s Bay, was remanded in custody after he pleaded not guilty to threatening a police officer with a sharp weapon early on 23 July this year.

In a separate case, 32-year-old Mohammed Ali Abuktif from St Julian’s was also remanded in custody after being accused of cannabis possession, threatening police officers and causing damage to the detriment of the police force.

In the third case, three Spanish youths, two aged 17 and the third aged 16, were conditionally discharged for 18 months after they admitted cannabis possession.
