Dependent Onthe state

Malta Independent Wednesday, 10 August 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

I refer to the opinion article Yummy mummy (TMID, 8 August). Very interesting article, Ms Micallef. I think it was about time that this issue appeared straight forward for all those who were blind to see or better, preferred not to discuss this issue.

For all those who are not dependent on the state but have found a better and more convenient solution… good luck, although I honestly think that life was good enough to them.

What drives me mad are the dependent mummies who do not seek to better themselves either because they are too lazy to do so, or because they do not have any ambitions in life at all, therefore the pocket money is good enough.

If the younger generation prefers to become one of these yummy mummies it’s either because they do not think that there is a better future for them or because there is not enough awareness and education. Shouldn’t school teach them what real life is all about? I do not think that the younger generation has an idea of what this means.

Could it be that these people are being helped too much? Shouldn’t they get help from the government for a stipulated amount of years?

After that the mummy has to prove that she can maintain herself and the young one, and by doing so the government can ease the burden which is incurred on society.
