The President of Luxol BC, Alfred Pace, has recently made some important appointments within the club’s administrative sector. Joseph Falzon has been appointed general manager while the current senior coach John Tabone will now also assume the role of Technical Director of the Club, the oldest and one of the most successful Basketball clubs on the Island.
Co-founder members of Luxol SC since 1968, both new appointees have expressed their determined intention of revamping the club’s Basketball sector this coming season.
Joe Falzon’s top priority will be that of refurbishing the Luxol gym at St Andrew’s while the experienced John Tabone will concentrate his efforts on improving the technical programme and the smooth transfer from Mini-Basket to Junior Basketball.
In this aspect, he will be assisting Louis Micallef, former General Secretary of the MBA, who will retain his role as co-ordinator of the Nursery and Youth sectors.
Speaking on this year’s Basketball Nursery project, John Tabone said: “Our main aspiration is not to develop champions but to ensure that the children grow up and progress in a loyal and serene atmosphere with an absolute respect to the rules of the game. Throughout the years we’ve introduced to the National League a significant amount of basketball players coming up from our mini and junior ranks whilst able to adapt and synergies successfully the basketball aspect with scholastic priorities.”
Tabone added: We believe that the basketball programme at Luxol is exceptionally easy to follow. It is planned to give quality time for scholastic duties while making sure that the participants do recreate themselves and enjoy the game of basketball. Our coaches are reminded that they have a sense of duty to follow the players’ basketball development and, to some extent, look periodically into their scholastic progress”.
“Over the years we have experienced that our Basketball programme is ideal for students who want to progress further to the tertiary education. We are extremely proud that both male and female squads are composed of university students and many have graduated” concluded Tabone.
Registrations for the Basketball Nursery from U/7 to U/15s, both male and female, are now open. Club officials will be in attendance at the Club’s office on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm to 8pm. The club’s Senior men’s side, Luxol BUPS, have strengthened their side and will again be looking to add more silverware this season. They have acquired the services of the young talented national team player Chris Sammut.
Women’s team
The Women’s team, Luxol Vodafone, will have the international post player Caroline Fenech back in their ranks after a spell on loan with Hibernians last season. They have also registered another international player, Rachel Camilleri, from champions Rabat Depiro.
