Smoking Emissions

Malta Independent Thursday, 1 September 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

And so, the general public has been asked to report vehicles that are emitting excessive smoke.

First of all, the system can be abused in such a way that I can SMS the details of a vehicle without having any proof and as such the

‘victim’ has to take leave from his/her workplace for the vehicle to be checked.

If proven innocent, will s/he be refunded the day’s worth? We practically see wardens everywhere; standing and waiting to catch someone using the mobile phone or not wearing the seat-belt.

Do they not notice these offending vehicles?

The idea that the general public is being ‘used’ to spy on each other is not only degrading but also gives the impression that the wardens are not doing their jobs properly and need ‘free’ help.
