Last Monday, a new political and social pressure group, the Alleanza Nazzjonali Repubblikana (ANR) was formally founded, it was announced yesterday. The actual launch will take place in the first months of 2006 during a constituent National Assembly with the participation of all its subscribed members.
Alleanza Nazzjonali Repubblikana “brings together genuine Nationalists and Catholic conservatives united in their action for the defence of our traditional Christian values, the nation and the family. These are the very foundations of a stable and prosperous society with respect to our national identity as a Maltese, Latin and European people.
“ANR defines itself as a movement because it believes that it is only through national unity and a natural evolution of national synergy, rather than through petty partisan politics, that our nation can successfully face the challenge of a potentially bleak future,” the movement said.
In our country, it added, a new wave of liberal trends and leftist ideology is rapidly and surely eroding traditional values based on our cultural identity and natural law. The citizen is being conned into thinking that this is “progress”. This assertion could not be further from the truth. In fact it is a concerted yet subtle effort to weaken our inherent patriotic sentiment, which is our only instinctive safeguard against the rape of our country by unfettered capitalism, unbridled consumerism, an increasing debt culture on one end and left-wing liberalism on the other. “By progress we understand advancement in continuity and not social revolution meant to eliminate our culture and values as promoted by so called “progressive” forces. The movement recognises our society’s growing concerns and financial straits for our families. The movement understands these problems and is a voice and platform to stop the rot.”
ANR’s role will be that of a well-focused pressure group that tackles the most immediate issues and the long-term big picture. It intends to lobby its proposals at a political level and seek their implementation thanks to the popular support it will garner. The movement is not a political party – it can therefore work hand in hand with any politician who harbours similar values and who places the national interest first and foremost. ANR is the voice of the Conservative and Social Right.
The coming months will be mainly dedicated to the establishment of a sound administrative set-up. However, in the meantime, ANR will make its presence felt in the local media. There are also plans for public manifestations on specific urgent issues.
On its website www.anrmalta.info one will find in-depth information about the movement, its ideology, statute, policy papers, and write-ups.
