Bread Festival 2005

Malta Independent Sunday, 18 September 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

For the fourth consecutive year, Qormi St Sebastian Youth Centre will be presenting the Bread Festival. As in previous years, this festival is being organised with the collaboration of Qormi local council.

This festival will begin on Friday 23 September at the Razzett L-Antik, where an audiovisual show will be presented about the Maltese loaf and the various traditions – both secular and religious – that have become associated with it over the years.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 23 to 30 September between 7.30pm and 10.30pm on weekdays and

from 9.30am to noon and 7.30pm to 11pm on Sunday, 25 September.

This event will reach its climax on Sunday, 25 September, when the actual Bread Festival will take place.

During the mornings, transport by means of a vintage bus will be provided for all those visiting the exhibition. This will take all those who wish for a visit around the town, to some of the bakeries which, on Sunday, will be busy cooking the roast of some of the local residents.

In the evening, from 7.30pm onwards, there will be a typical Maltese evening in front of St Sebastian Parish Church. Throughout the evening, visitors will be able to help themselves to some delicious Maltese food and try some freshly baked bread.

Entertainment will also be provided by the Pinto Brass Band, together with folk-dancing, singing and traditional Maltese ghana, and lively singing from Mary Rose Mallia and Renato.

In case of bad weather the event will be transferred to the New Pastoral Centre in St Edward Street, a few metres away.
