Malta Independent Saturday, 24 September 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The All Wheel Drive Club recently held its Annual General Meeting, during which meeting a new committee was elected. Nine persons contested the election for the new committee, two of which had never contested before. A good number of members were present for the election, ensuring that the votes cast represent the will of the absolute majority of the club members. Four members of last year's committee were elected and the new addition is Duncan Briffa.

The new committee is made up of the following members:

Kevin Mallia - President; Jonathan Bruno - Treasurer; Duncan Briffa - Secretary; Edward Galea, Nicholas Mifsud

The Committee would like to thank Neville Ciantar for the valuable input given by him during the past year as a committee member. His post was filled by Duncan Briffa who contested the elections for the first time.

The All Wheel Drive Club organizes competitions for all sorts of four-wheel drive vehicles. The most popular events are undoubtedly the ones making up the Modified Vehicle Championship sponsored by Ciapella Motors.

Last year's Championship was hotly contested by fifteen drivers. The Championship was won by Matthew Gatt, followed by Johann Mifsud and third place was clinched by John Scicluna.

This year's Championship shall consist of two timed trials, two timed stages, two trials and the much-awaited Speed Endurance. These events will be spread out over a period of seven months, and shall kick off with a Timed Trial which shall be held at Kennedy Grove on tomorrow at 9am.
