Prelude Of things to come?

From Mr V. Raimondo

It is truly amazing what a selective memory some people have. I am referring to Daphne Caruana Galizia who mentioned the successful application of sanctions against South Africa to bring about a change of government there.

What appears to have slipped her memory is that previous similar sanctions against Rhodesia/Zimbabwe successfully managed to replace the governments of Ian Smith and Bishop Abel Muzorewa with the kleptocratic, racist and genocidal dictator, Robert Mugabe, who, in the past 25 years has managed to totally destroy its once vibrant economy, cause famine and, directly or indirectly, murdered tens of thousands of its citizens.

Maybe this is the sort of future that the Liberal Left have in mind for us, after enough criminal escapees from the anarchic countries to our south have invaded our small island, under the protection of a grossly abused Human Rights agreement, which our predecessors signed 60 years ago.

Is it really worth risking our future just to satisfy the Human Rights NGOs?

Please note that I use the word “criminal” advisedly, as in the countries these illegal immigrants come from the forces of law and order have broken down. In such a situation it is only possible to amass enough funds for a trans-continental journey by criminal activities such as violence, corruption and prostitution, so most of the asylum applicants obviously fall in this category.

There may be a few exceptions to this rule but our filtering system for asylum seekers with its low index of suspicion and much vaunted acceptance rate of 65 per cent is proving pitifully incompetent to cope with the task of sorting them out.

Vincent Raimondo
