The smart card, which enables students to receive maintenance grants has been activated, the board responsible for the grants said yesterday.

The board said Lm400 had been put on the cards of students who are in their first year of study. Students who are entitled to supplementary grants due to the course of study chosen will have the amount added to their card when the board is informed who they are.

The board will also increase the grants allocated to first year

students who qualify for maintenance grants when their applications are processed.
